Orthotics in NW Calgary
Orthotics can be used to help treat a number of different conditions such as plantar fasciitis, knee pain, and other alignment issues.
At the Centre for Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation, when orthotics are prescribed, a Biomechanical Assessment is scheduled. Your doctor may examine your gait and your feet, as well as discuss different materials for your orthotics in case you need them for dress shoes, sports shoes, etc. Plaster or virtual casts of your feet, using a non-weight bearing method, will be made and sent to or Crux Orthotics to be manufactured.
It will usually take 2-3 weeks from the date of your Orthotic Assessment for your custom orthotics to arrive back at our clinic. You do not need an appointment to pick up your orthotics, but it is best if you let us know when you’re coming so that your doctor can do a quick fitting (at no cost), to ensure everything works out for you with your new orthotics!
Once you’ve had an orthotic cast made (assuming your feet are no longer growing or changing), it is not necessary that you book an exam in future to get additional pairs of orthotics; we are able to order them directly from the manufacturer for you and save everyone some time. You do not have to order subsequent pairs of orthotics with the same materials as you initially ordered – perhaps you want a pair for dress shoes and a pair for sports shoes.
In the event that we don’t get things right the first time around with your orthotics (sometimes metatarsal pads, among other things need to be added or adjusted), just let us know what is happening and the next time you’re in the office bring them along and we will have them altered at no cost to you. If your orthotics are simply old and need re-surfacing, there is a minimal fee (generally less than $50). It usually takes 2-3 weeks for your orthotics to be returned with any changes made to them.
Children under the age of 12 are able to receive 1 free pair of orthotics if their feet have substantially outgrown their orthotics within 18 months of the initial casting.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much are orthotics?
The 20 minute casting fee is $65.00 and is payable at the time of casting.
The orthotics are $420.00 payable at the time you receive them.
When do I pay for my orthotics/what date will be on my receipt?
The date you receive your actual orthotics is the date you will pay for them and the date your receipt will state. If your benefit year is ending, you need to expect that it will take at least 2-3 weeks for your orthotics to be produced and delivered to our office, following your Orthotic Exam. We are not able to give you a receipt prior to this point or backdate your receipt. This is fraudulent billing and not only would it badly affect our business and your coverage, but we don’t receive all of the paperwork you will need to submit to your insurance company until we receive your orthotics anyway.
Are chiropractors approved providers of orthotics for my insurance company?
It is important that you review your benefit specifications prior to booking your exam, as every insurance company and benefit plan has a different list of requirements for orthotic coverage.
Some requirements MAY include:
- Prescription by a Medical Doctor (not a Chiropractor)
- Orthotics must be casted by a Chiropodist or Podiatrist (not a Chiropractor)
- Some simply have special forms that need to be filled in by the provider and submitted along with the receipt
If you have any questions about your coverage please don’t hesitate to ask and we will be happy to help you decipher the restrictions.
Is direct billing offered for orthotics?
We are unable to direct bill any of the insurance companies for neither the casting nor the orthotic fee. We will provide a “package” with your receipt to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. If your insurance company has any particular forms that need to be filled in for your submission, please let our office know and they will also be provided with your receipt.
