Stretching and Mobility Classes

The Centre for Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation’s multi-faceted approach is taken towards achieving each patient’s rehabilitation goals. With a full range of rehab modalities including Chiropractic care, Registered Massage Therapy, Acupuncture, Shockwave and now, Stretching and Mobility Classes, the Centre for Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation allows you to receive all of your treatment and rehab at the same facility. A big part of this rehabilitation is Patient Education; in educating each patient about what their condition is caused by and how to treat it, they are given the tools to improve their condition and aid in achieving their long-term success.

At the Centre for Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation, your practitioners work as a team to triage your condition and give you the best care possible, open communication and complementary treatments and practices are used to progress you and give you the tools to take care of your injury from the comfort of your own home. If you have further questions that you just don’t think of while you’re at your appointment, you can email or phone the office and the administrative team is always happy to relay questions, leave notes in your file for your next visit and when the matter is urgent, they will have your doctor give you a call.

Although some stretching and rehabilitative exercises are provided as part of your usual chiropractic and sometimes massage treatments at the Centre for Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation, the next step in your recovery and self-management is to partake in a regular stretching program in order to maintain your progress.

Anyone can stretch! You can stretch at home, in the park, at the gym or as part of an organized group. The Stretching and Mobility Classes at the clinic have been implemented as an extra care-aide to ensure that the correct form/techniques are used in stretching. Modifications are provided to anyone that cannot perform the “original” positions during the class so that they can apply to anyone, of any age, fitness or comfort level. The class instructor, Hayden Gladstone has ample experience in assisting and instructing people with all levels of experience. His background in Personal Training through the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology and Kinstretch through Functional Anatomy Seminars, give him the ability to combine different approaches to your health, for a more individualized rehabilitation plan.

Stretching and Mobility classes are held on Thursdays and are split into Lower Body and Upper Body. Class times for Lower Body are 10am and 5:15pm and Upper Body are at 11:15am and 6:30pm. Classes run for 1 hour and generally consist of a quick warm up and explanation followed by stretching, strengthening and mobilization exercises and wrap up with a cool down and question period. Each class is a little bit different, depending on the participants’, injuries, ability and experience levels. Small classes of no more than 4 participants guarantee lots of individual attention during class, so there is no need to be intimidated or worried that you won’t be able to keep up.

Common Questions:

Can I participate if I have a musculoskeletal injury?
Assuming your chiropractor/therapist/doctor has given the okay to participate in our Stretching and Mobility classes you shouldn’t have any problem participating because Hayden is able to provide modifications specific to your condition.

I am not experienced with stretching and am quite inflexible, is the class worth my time?
Absolutely! All activity levels are welcome and will be accommodated — these classes are about getting you into a better place physically, so it doesn’t matter where you’re beginning!

Do I need to sign up weekly/pay for a series of classes to participate?
No, you are more than welcome to come for one class and decide whether you want to participate again and if so what frequency. So long as we are given 24 hours notice for cancellation, you can choose the schedule you wish.

Do I need to be a patient to participate in the classes?
No, anyone is welcome to participate, we just ask that you arrive 5-10 minutes early for your first class in order to sign our waiver.

What do I need to bring?
Some participants bring their own yoga mats for extra padding and water. All that you really need to bring is loose fitting clothing, exercise-appropriate and we provide mats, blocks, etc.

Choosing to participate in Stretching and Mobility Classes at the Centre for Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation ensures that there is open communication between your practitioners regarding each step of your rehabilitation. Knowing that the instructor is approved by your chiropractor and therapist to teach you new stretches and exercises specific to your treatment allows you to relax and stop worrying about who you should see, what class you should do, how long to hold a pose, etc. You are always welcome to discuss your condition with Hayden and he can provide you with injury-specific advice, or leave a note with your practitioners to ensure that they are aware of any exacerbations, or breakthroughs you may have during your stretching class, for your next visit.
